For Stephanie Prince, being pregnant should have been one of the happiest times in her life. But it wasn’t. She was living in a hotel and not sure what her next move was or how she would provide for herself or her baby. That’s when Palmetto Healthy Start of Palmetto Health stepped in. A team of resource mothers, social workers and case managers began working with Stephanie and provided her with an outlet and a variety of resources. She was able to find the right support system to get back on her feet. Now, Stephanie, her baby and the baby’s father, have a stable living situation and the care and love they need from family, friends and their Palmetto Healthy Start family.
Stephanie was among the more than one hundred attendees at the recent Empower event, hosted by Palmetto Healthy Start, on April 22. With so many others in the community facing barriers and adversity like Stephanie, the team decided to pull together a variety of speakers, guests and resources to organize the Empower conference to focus on the mind, body and soul. Throughout the symposium attendees received beauty and image consults, stress management tips and spiritual guidance.
Tools and resources were shared to help reach their goals and inspire them to become successful. Darci Strickland of WLTX-TV served as the emcee. Kyle Green, an author and motivational speaker, gave a powerful keynote message, along with an inspiring and heartwarming testimony by Beasy Baybie of Hot 103.9. She shared her personal story of how she overcame somany obstacles and how she is now fulfilling her purpose in life. Other speakers included April James of YogaCheer, Ericka DeAbreu of The DeAbreu Agency, Deon Stucky of D-Squared concepts and Rev. Johnny Ray Noble of Second Nazareth Baptist Church.
Empower II is being planned at the Sumter Civic Center on Tuesday, August 30. For information or to register, call Palmetto Healthy Start at 803-296-3780. For more about the empower conference, visit PalmettoHealth.org/HealthyStart.
