Demarcus F. Bush

Demarcus F. Bush is a native of South Carolina and graduate of Winthrop University (BA), Howard University (MS), and the University of Louisville (Au.D.).  He is an Assistant Professor of Audiology and researcher at South Carolina State University.  He is the only African American, male Audiologist in the state of South Carolina.  He mentors the next generation of professionals, while teaching Audiology courses and is also the co-founder of SPA RISE (Speech Pathologist and Audiologist Remembering to Invest in Students Education), an initiative to bring alumni back to campus to inspire success among his students.  Dr. Bush is also the project director of a $500,000 grant that has resulted in a customized mobile audiology van that will conduct outreach to farmers across rural South Carolina.  With this initiative, Dr. Bush and student assistants have presented at numerous state, national, and international conferences.  His selected community service activities include:  Vice-President of Audiology, for the South Carolina Speech-Language Hearing Association, U.S. Fulbright Peer Reviewer, United Way of the Midlands Palmetto Society, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the University of Guyana in Georgetown, Guyana (South America).    In addition to being a professor and actively engaged in community service efforts on a local, state, and international level, he is a “Hatter,” trained by renowned Master Hatters across the United States in a craft that is considered “a dying art.”  You can find his 1786 collection under the brand “Fitz & Gerald.”   His unique hat designs are inspired by his worldly travels around the globe and can be seen on his Instagram and webpage: fitzandgerald.com.
