Macie P. Smith is a Licensed Gerontology Social Worker in Columbia, SC who works with seniors living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias and their family to assist them in navigating the long-term care system by providing support services, information and education.
Macie is a firm believer that the services she provides improves the quality of life of persons living with dementia and their family by reducing the typical emotional impediments that often appear along the caregiving journey.
Macie has landed a monthly segment on OnPoint on WACH FOX 57 entitled “Ask Dr. Macie” where she answers health related questions that have been posed by viewers. She also is a Featured Contributing Author in the All About Seniors Magazine and has appeared in several editions of Faculty Matters Magazine for her continued contributions in the academic areas of teaching, discovery, integration, and application. In addition, Macie is a regular guest on nationally syndicated radio shows discussing Alzheimer’s disease and dementia-capable practices. She has gained national recognition as a leader in dementia-competent practices by academic, state, and national organizations.
Macie is a Licensed Social Worker, Gerontologist, and a Certified Social Work Case Manager. She is the recipient of the 2017 SC Area Health Education Consortium (SCAHEC) Outstanding Educator of the Year Award and manages the highly sought-after Dementia Speaks training program. She is the newly elected President of the National Association of Social Workers-SC Chapter.
Macie holds a Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
