Camillia Austin

Camillia Austin was born in Columbia, South Carolina and received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Mass Communication with a focus in Public Relations from the premiere college of her choice – The University of South Carolina. She obtained an Associate in Management, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Webster University, and graduated from the Blueprint for Leadership program. Camillia readily accepts the challenges of change and eagerly embraces every chance to turn operational obstacles into organizational opportunities. To further enhance her professional proficiencies, she obtained certifications as a Change Management Specialist (CMS), Six Sigma Lean Professional (SSLP), and Six Sigma White Belt. She is the Supervisor of Operations, Simulation & Clinical Skills, Palmetto Health with 15 years of experience in healthcare and business administration, which includes nearly 10 years as the Director of Healthcare Education & Chief Diversity Officer at PHT Services, Ltd.  In her current role, Camillia oversees the administrative functions of the Simulation Center and Mobile Simulation Enterprise, implements procedural and operational enhancements to improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the department’s work, generates operational and financial reports, and develops business/financial models for new activities as well as for long-term expansion planning.

Camillia is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (SCCADVASA), chairs the United Way Health Council, and holds active memberships on the United Way Community Impact Committee (CIC), American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), National Association of Health Care Executives (NAHCE SC), Women in Philanthropy (WIP), Palmetto Health – USC School of Medicine Simulation Center Advisory Council, and as an Academy Member of the My Carolina Alumni Association Board of Governors. She has a deep personal concern for helping anyone who is in need. Camillia manages to combine her compassion for human needs and her commitment to community service through her numerous acts of volunteer service with such organizations as Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) as a tax preparer, The Cooperative Ministry, at the Inclement Weather Center, Salvation Army, and the Institute for Leadership & Professional Excellence, Columbia College, where she serves as a mentor. She is the virtual embodiment of John Wesley’s sonnet, “Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.”

Camillia is a consummate professional who holds herself to the highest of personal standards, while still maintaining the greatest of regards for the value of human diversity. She is a lover of life and a life-long learner who has an insatiable desire for knowledge, novelty, adventure, and good eats. Her passions for exploring life through the pursuits of experiential learnings have guided her while walking down the historic cobblestone streets of London, entering the Arc de Triomphe and riding down the Champs-Élysées in Paris, beholding the architectural grandeur of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai, burying her toes in Punta Cana’s cool powder-white sand and turquoise waters at Bavaro Beach, zip-lining through the forests of Puerto Vallarta, frolicking in the Pacific Ocean’s bellicose waters in Los Cabos, admiring majestic creatures on a Nairobi safari, and despite language barriers, understanding the universal language of love and compassion while being cared for in Rome by the beautiful people of Addis Ababa during an acute illness. Camillia has concluded the real Seven Wonders of the World are: to see, to hear, to touch, to taste, to feel, to laugh, and to love.
