Contribution by Palmetto College
Many South Carolinians have had to put their education on hold because of time and place constraints, family commitments or a lack of financial resources, leaving only about a quarter of our residents with bachelor’s degrees.
But, a recent study by researchers in USC’s Darla Moore School of Business shows that those degrees provide a lifetime of better earnings for individuals and communities. South Carolina residents with bachelor’s degrees earn an average of $15,000 more per year than high school graduates, and all salaries in a community rise when the number of college graduates increases.
Today, more than ever, a college degree can be a ticket to a better career, and a better life. But for many, moving to a college campus to pursue a four-year degree simply is not an option. That’s why the University of South Carolina created Palmetto College.
By taking advantage of our convenient online programs, students from all backgrounds will be able to complete a bachelor’s degree without leaving their work, families or communities.
Palmetto College provides access to complete bachelor’s degrees online from USC Aiken, Columbia, Beaufort or Upstate.
Students who have earned at least 60 hours of college credit and meet degree admissions requirements can pursue one of the following degrees online: Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, Human Services, Liberal Studies, Organizational Leadership and RN-BSN Nursing.
Faculty members from all eight USC campuses teach courses. In fact, those without the prerequisite college credits may be interested in pursuing those general education requirements at one of the eight USC campuses – Aiken, Beaufort, Columbia, Lancaster, Salkehatchie, Sumter, Union and Upstate – or another accredited institution.
Palmetto College is committed to improving access to the University of South Carolina and its life-changing opportunities. Learn more at PalmettoCollege.sc.edu.
